I'm Tryin

I wasn’t always a momma
I didn’t used to worry much at all
You would come and get me at eight or maybe nine
We’d make ourselves a night off whatever we could find
But I’m tryin to be more like I oughta
Cause I wasn’t always a momma
I wasn’t always a momma
My own she told me I could come back home
She don’t seem to mind in fact she’s taken to it all
But I wonder if she’d bother to tell me if you called
And I’m tryin to be more like I oughta
Cause I wasn’t always a momma
I wasn’t always a momma
You must realize my weakness, too
Living with a baby is sometimes living alone
A child was never meant to be all a woman owned
But I’m tryin to be more like I oughta
Cause I wasn’t always a momma
